Uralkali and T-Machinery establish a Joint Venture for the Production of Spare Parts and Assembly of Tunnelling Machines

02.06.2017

Today, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Uralkali (the Company; MICEX: URKA) has signed a memorandum with the Czech company T-Machinery on the establishment of a joint venture (JV) for the production, repair of mining equipment and spare parts, and the assembly of tunnelling machines.

On the basis of Uralkali’s production facilities, it is planned to create a modern technological complex, the capacities of which will make it possible to assemble up to 6 tunnelling machines of a new type, as well as make major repairs to 12 tunnelling machines of various modifications per year. The joint venture will be provided with all the necessary equipment worth about EUR 5 million and will offer dozens of new jobs. As part of cooperation with T-Machinery, domestic manufacturers will be attracted as suppliers of various services and equipment. The joint venture should reach its full capacity within 3 years.

Dmitry Osipov, Uralkali CEO, commented:

The main goal of the new JV is to meet the needs of Uralkali in the production and repair of tunnelling machines, which will allow the Company to maintain its leadership both in the cost and effectiveness of production of sylvinite ore and in using the most advanced industrial technologies.

Zdenek Gajdík, T-Machinery CEO, commented:

We are pleased that our experience and technological developments in the mining machinery industry will be useful for Uralkali, the world’s leader in the potash production. Our designers have developed a unique tunnelling machine MB900CM, the most adapted one for the development of potash salts of the Verkhnekamskoye field. The creation of the joint venture will provide Uralkali with high-quality equipment, considerably improve the maintenance service and guarantee availability of the spare parts for the mining machines.

The tunnelling machine MB900CM is a new development of T-Machinery. The model is adapted to the extraction of sylvinite ore in the Verkhnekamskoye potassium and magnesium salt field. The capacity of MB900CM is at least 10 tonnes of ore per minute. The machine has two combined disc cutting units, while the location of the cutters ensures extraction of ore of the necessary fraction, which allows to effectively obtain the commercial component — potassium. The new machine boasts a high degree of reliability in its class — the standard overhaul life is 2 million tonnes.
