Uralkali Completes Testing of High-Tech Hearing Protection Devices

Uralkali has started using innovative ear plugs that protect the health of mine employees working in environments with high noise levels. The Company spends more than RUB 100 million annually on providing employees with state-of-the-art protective equipment and uniforms that meet all professional safety requirements.

The special ear plugs are equipped with a unique system of active noise suppression. In contrast to traditional hearing protection methods that only reduce the level of sound, these innovative ear plugs not only neutralise industrial noise, but also intensify the sound of human voices.

The ear plugs are fitted with a special radio, which works even in underground conditions up to 400m. The device has a battery life of 24 hours. As a result, the use of such high-tech devices improves interaction between the operators of the combine machines and shuttle cars in the combine complex.

The first 600 pairs of ear plugs have already been delivered to the Company’s mines. A further 540 devices will be obtained by the end of the year to provide all mining group workers with them.

Uralkali (www.uralkali.com) is one of the world’s largest potash producers and exporters. The Company’s assets consist of 5 mines and 7 ore-treatment mills situated in the towns of Berezniki and Solikamsk (Perm Region, Russia). Uralkali employs ca.11 000 people (in the main production unit). Uralkali’s shares and GDRs are traded on the Moscow Exchange and London Stock Exchange, respectively.
