Uralkali is Main Sponsor for the 16th Conference on Engineering and Mining Geophysics

14.09.2020

The Conference on Engineering and Mining Geophysics for 2020, sponsored by Uralkali, has started today in Perm, Russia. The event was organised by the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), which brings together more than 26,000 specialists from 100 countries worldwide. A thematic exhibition and a scientific workshop titled ‘Engineering and Mining Geology 2020’ will be a key feature of the Conference, which is being held 14-18 September 2020. Eduard Smirnov, Subsoil Management Director of Uralkali and Sergei Glebov, Chief Geologist of the Company, are members of the advisory committee for the conference. Uralkali’s leading geophysicists have also co-authored several academic presentations.

The participants in the conference include research fellows from the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Mining Institute of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg Mining University, the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, as well as representatives of major Russian mining companies.

Discussions at the conference will focus on a range of industry topics including the application of modern geophysics methods for safe and effective mining of natural resources in complicated geological environments. Speakers will discuss comprehensive geo-physical monitoring, geophysical studies on holes, surface and underground seismic exploration and many other relevant issues.

Eduard Smirnov, Uralkali Subsoil Management Director, commented:

Uralkali proactively collaborates with leading science and research organisations in its implementation of cutting-edge innovations designed by Russian and international scientists. These innovations are used for the development of the unique Verkhnekamskoye deposit, which contains potassium and magnesium salts. I am confident that scientific and technical collaboration is a necessity for safer and more efficient mining operations.
