Brazilian Ambassador to Russia visits Uralkali’s production facilities

21.11.2019

Uralkali (the Company; Moscow Exchange: URKA), one of the world’s largest potash producers, today hosted Tovar da Silva Nunes, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Russian Federation at the Company’s production facilities. The site visit took place during the Ambassador’s trip to the Perm region, home to Uralkali’s potash mines and ore-treatments plants, located in the cities of Berezniki and Solikamsk.

In Berezniki, Tovar da Silva Nunes and his delegation visited the underground potash mine of Berezniki-4, where, at a depth of more than 400 metres, they were able to see the process of potash ore mining and the operation of a mining unit, including the Ural-20R cutter loader, a conveyor hopper and a self-propelled car.

Following the site visit, Tovar da Silva Nunes met with the Company’s management, who shared their expertise on the main technologies used for processing potash ore, along with other business processes that enable Uralkali, to successfully supply a large share of the global potash market.

Tovar da Silva Nunes, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Russian Federation, commented:

Brazil has traditionally been one of the world’s largest consumers of potash fertilisers, including those exported from Russia. Therefore, it was important for me to familiarise myself with the methods and technologies used during production in the region, which ranks the world’s second largest in terms of deposits of potassium and magnesium salts.

Dmitry Osipov, Uralkali CEO, commented:

Brazil remains a key strategic consumer market for us, which has a lot of potential. Brazil uses advanced fertiliser application methods. We mainly supply granular potash to that market, which is a finely processed product that slows down the soil’s absorption of nutrients thereby enabling prolonged life of fertilisers.

Uralkali (www.uralkali.com) is one of the world’s largest potash producers and exporters. The Company’s assets consist of 5 mines and 7 ore treatment plants in the towns of Berezniki and Solikamsk (Perm Region, Russia). Uralkali employs ca. 12,000 people in the main production unit. Uralkali’s shares are traded on the Moscow Exchange.
