  • Uralkali Named Most Energy-efficient Company in the Western Urals in 2019

    Uralkali (the Company; Moscow Exchange: URKA), one of the world’s largest potash producers, was awarded ’Most Energy-Efficient Company in the Western Urals’ in 2019. In the same awards contest, Aleksey Ryumkin, the Company’s Chief Power Engineer, was recognised as the ’Best Power Engineer in the Western Urals in 2019?.

    The contest was organised by the Western Urals Power Engineers Association, in association with the Ministry of Tariff Regulation and Energy for the Perm Region. A total of 24 industrial enterprises were represented in the categories for ’Most Energy-Efficient Company in the Western Urals’ and ’Best Power Engineer in the Western Urals’. 16 service organisations participated in the category for ’Best Energy Service Company’.

    Entries were judged according to the measures and projects the enterprises had in place to reduce energy intensity and conserve fuel and energy resources, improve energy efficiency at production operations and introduce digital technologies. Environmental aspects were also evaluated in the judging criteria.

    Aleksey Ryumkin, Uralkali Chief Power Engineer, ñommented:

    Uralkali is making conscious efforts to reduce its overall energy consumption. The Company is currently implementing a programme for conserving energy and improving its energy efficiency for the period 2019-2023. In 2019, the budget for this programme amounted to RUB 120 million. All of our resource-saving projects have not only economic, but also environmental benefits, as they reduce our impact on the environment.

    Uralkali’s energy saving programme in 2019 included replacing 3,000 lamps with LED ones, installing variable-frequency drives for processing equipment, introducing an automated load distribution system to increase the efficiency of energy conversion for boilers in the Berezniki-4 boiler shop, automating the Solikamsk-3 boiler shop, developing an electronic and mathematical model for heat networks at Berezniki-2 and Berezniki-4, and carrying out ‘Smart Buildings’ projects. In 2019, the Company’s natural gas consumption decreased by 14% year-on-year and water savings amounted to 547 thousand m3.
