Uralkali Launches ESG Strategy to 2025

28.01.2021

PJSC Uralkali (the Company; Moscow Exchange: URKA), one of the world’s leading potash producers, announces the launch of its environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy to 2025.

The new ESG strategy to 2025, which has been approved by Uralkali’s Board of Directors, is reflective of the Company’s enhanced ESG approach. Prior to approval of the ESG strategy to 2025, Uralkali was guided by its 2020-2021 Sustainable Development Roadmap, which was underpinned by seven fundamental ESG areas that have significantly influenced Uralkali’s business strategy over many years.

Under the new strengthened framework, the Company has approved three additional ESG focus areas to adapt to evolving global sustainable development trends. The three additional priority areas are climate change, sustainable farming as well as responsible procurement and supply chain management.

In line with the Company’s new strategic focus areas, Uralkali will continue to actively support and promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (the UN SDGs), and will be implementing the following major initiatives in the Company’s new focus areas:

  • SDG Goal 2: Zero Hunger
    • Running educational programs contributing to agricultural literacy and the effective use of potash fertilizers for over 20,000 farmers in key consumption regions
  • SDG Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
    • Developing a Supplier Code of Conduct and taking measures to ensure this is adhered to
  • SDG Goal 13: Climate Action
    • Developing a carbon management system in 2021
    • Reducing GHG emissions, and implementing science-based emissions reduction targets

Vitaly Lauk, Uralkali CEO, commented:

As part of our five-year environmental, social and governance strategy, our priority focus areas will be climate change, sustainable agriculture, and responsible procurement and supply chains. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the socio-economic situation caused by negative effects of climate change and the growing levels of hunger in many countries around the world. Our contribution to solving these pressing issues will form the basis of Uralkali’s business strategy and our priorities relevant.
