Mining engineering inspectors begin to work in Uralkali’s mines

The HSE Department of the Berezniki-4 mine has begun to operate with an enlarged team. From now on, a specialist of the HSE Department with experience of working in mines will attend each work shift.
The main duties of mining engineering inspectors will be monitoring compliance with the HSE rules in:
- operation of mining equipment;
- conditions of mines;
- carrying out repair works by mining personnel and contractors;
- filing relevant documentation.
A total of 26 mining engineering inspectors will commence work at the Company’s five mines shortly.
An increase in personnel of the HSE Department is an important stage in the realisation of a programme aimed at the prevention of accidents in the workplace.
Stanislav Seleznev, Director of Uralkali’s HSE Department, commented:
Minimisation of industrial injuries and zero fatalities in the workplace are Uralkali’s priorities. Increasing the number of the specialists who are involved in the HSE matters and granting them greater authority are the first steps towards realising those priorities. We ought to reach a culture when an employee will work safely not just out of fear of being punished, but also from looking forward to returning home healthy and unharmed.
Attention to industrial safety issues, zero tolerance to those who violate them and non-exclusive punishment system within the HSE guidelines delivers results. Over the last nine years the level of industrial injuries in the Company has fallen by 2.5 times: from 45 accidents in 2005 to 18 in 2014.
