Uralkali modernises fleet of mineral wagons

Uralkali (the Company; LSE, MICEX: URKA) has signed an agreement with United Wagon Company (UWC), a scientific and production company, for the supply of hopper wagons for transportation of mineral fertilizers. The agreement is part of the Company’s plan to modernise its railway fleet.

UWC will supply the Company with 400 wagons with an increased capacity of 76.5 tonnes (6 tonnes more than similar cars produced by other manufacturers). The project is being implemented as part of Uralkali’s capacity expansion programme.

The Company currently owns a fleet of specialised wagons for transportation of mineral fertilizers, consisting of approximately 8,000 units, making it one of the largest in Russia. The newly-acquired wagons will gradually replace the outdated rolling stock and the total number of mineral wagons in the fleet will remain unchanged.

Irina Yamilova, Head of the Rail Transport Department of PJSC Uralkali, commented:

The Company is constantly working to improve the efficiency of use of its leased rolling stock, which is owned by leading Russian operators, and its own rolling stock. The new wagons meet our production requirements and enable more efficient use of our logistics capabilities.

Note to Editors:

Uralkali’s capacity expansion programme is being implemented as part of the Company’s strategy, the main objectives of which are:

  • To maintain Uralkali’s leading position in the global potash market by production volume and sales;
  • To maintain its status as the lowest-cost producer.

The programme covers two main areas:

  • Expansion of existing potash production facilities;
  • Commissioning of new potash production facilities.

Uralkali intends to invest a total of approximately 300 billion roubles in capacity expansion measures, which will allow the Company to increase its production capacity to 14.4 million tonnes by 2020.

Uralkali (www.uralkali.com) is one of the world’s largest potash producers and exporters. The Company’s assets consist of 5 mines and 7 ore-treatment mills situated in the towns of Berezniki and Solikamsk (Perm Region, Russia). Uralkali employs ca.11,000 people (in the main production unit). Uralkali’s shares and GDRs are traded on the Moscow Exchange and London Stock Exchange, respectively.
